Project

Title Ecosystems
Insects
Description Our fifth graders work on a science unit called Ecosystems. Students use 3 - 2 liter plastic soda bottles and create an aquatic area, in the bottom bottle, and a terrarium area, in the top bottle. The students add gravel, water, aquatic plants, a fish and a snail to their aquarium and gravel, soil, seeds, and water to the terrarium. Once the plants begin to grow, a cricket and a pill bug are added to the terrarium. Our classes are 50/50 in terms of gender. We have a diverse student population. My class enjoyed Bugscope. My colleagues would like to have their students have the opportunity to participate too. I have invited a friend of mine to help us. He is an entomologist and I am sure that he will be able to explain much more to everyone than I can. He is really looking forward to doing this.
