- Bugscope Team Luke you are the supreme ruler, dude
- Guest Chaos how did you decide to work at bugscope?
Bugscope Team I got hired in 1998 to help start it

- Guest what is a earwig ?
Bugscope Team they are those skinny pincher bugs you find when you pick up a rock
- Teacher Hello I am the science teacher working with the computer teacher
- Guest oh okay

- Guest How long have you worked at Beckman Institute?
- Student hi karla
- Guest hi mommy
- Teacher Are we working with an insect?
Bugscope Team this is an insect larva, but I am sorry we don't know what kind it is
- Guest hi Cate
- Bugscope Team Luke you should see controls on the top right, and you can click on any one of the presets to go to that place on the stub
- Student TAKE IT BACK
- Guest whar does it take to get into bugscope

- Guest what is this
- Bugscope Team Okay I gave Mrs Belz control
- Student what insect is this?
Bugscope Team Dude we don't know -- it is a larval stage, like a caterpillar
- Student can we have the microscope?
Bugscope Team Mrs Belz has it now
- Student (jeremy asked that)
- Guest what are the spikes on his back?
Bugscope Team they keep other insects and birds from biting it
- Student do you have multiple scopes up?
- Guest are the spikes hair
- Guest wat does it take to gt into bugscope
Bugscope Team you mean to be on the team?
- Guest that is cool
- Guest who sent this in
Bugscope Team we had this in a jar with a bunch of other ones. I don't know where it came from though
- Guest What's the most interesting bug you have seen or discovered using the microscope?
Bugscope Team we have seen some beautiful beetles, and mites, and weevils, and flies... it is hard to think of the coolest
- Guest How long have you been working here?
- Guest yes
- Student DID I HURT THE MICROSCOPE
Bugscope Team no you didnt
- Teacher What are the phangs coming out of his mouth
Bugscope Team those are palps -- they are used to help taste and manipulate food into the mouth
- Student how can you hurt the microscope
Bugscope Team you could jam the specimen into the pullpiece (where the beam comes out)
- Student Can we have the microscope?
- Student mrs. belz look at preset 13 or 14
- Guest ok
- Guest Chaos what are the spikes on the bugs back??
Bugscope Team those are likely defensive -- to keep birds from eating the larva -- and also to help keep parasitic wasps at bay
- Guest where are the eyes
- Guest who started the institute ?
- Bugscope Team but really you wouldnt be able to do that with bugscope
- Student what are the spikes on its back?
Bugscope Team those are probably for defensive measures. Things will be less likely to eat it when there are spikes
- Student ok
- Student Can we see a mosquito?
Bugscope Team we have a couple on here
- Guest wat does it take to get on the team of bugscope
- Bugscope Team we've made it break proof for the most part

- Teacher Can you swithc the microscope to Curry
Bugscope Team Curry has it
Bugscope Team curry has control
- Student what are the hairs on its legs?
Bugscope Team insects have lots of hairs on them. They are called setae when found on bugs. since all bugs have a hard exoskeleton that can't feel anything, they need some way to sense their environment. that's where the setae come in. they are sensory organs that stick through the exoskeleton and attach to nerves underneath
- Student ya
- Guest what is the most interesting bug you have ever seen with bugscope
Bugscope Team actually we saw some really cool mites that were shedding their cuticle, like slipping out of a t-shirt

- Guest why did you decide to be on bugscope
- Guest wow
- Guest can i have da microscope after curry plz?

- Student dis is amazing the coolist one EVER.

- Guest cate: is the institute about bugs?
Bugscope Team no, it's about different science projects. Where I work in the building has different kinds of microscopes. We don't just do bugscope all day. We also image different kinds of samples like carbon nanotubes or microchips.

- Student so how do the rolly pollys breath do they have lungs too?
Bugscope Team apparently the gills allow them to breathe air -- like crabs that live on the land
- Student What are we looking at right now?
- Student OS THIS A HEAD

- Guest what are pill bugs?
