Bugscope Team No, they would be lonely and couldn't find anything to eat.

- Student no
- Student How do they breath-Annie?
Bugscope Team I am not really an expert on earthworms, but I think that they breathe like a frog breathes, they have moist skin and they absorb oxygen from the air through their skin.

- Student How long have the japinese beetles been around!!
- Student do you go to illinois basketball games

- Student wat r those bubbles ?????????

- Student Can we see the spider agian Scot
Bugscope Team we did not see the spider, I am sorry, so we did not put it on today's sample stub
- Student what is the most endangered insect?
Bugscope Team We are not really sure. Scientists actually know very little about all the insects in the world. It is entirely possible that there are some insect species that have become extinct without anyone ever knowing that they existed. This is particularly true in the tropical rainforests.
- Student ohhhhhhhhh thanks
- Student This is the japenese, right?

- Student IS it fun dissecting bugs
- Student is that the in sect's skin

- Student can we see the beatle scotttttttt?????
- Student Swwweeeeeeett!!!!!!!!!!
- Student Is that the mouth, eyes, and face of a fly?

- Student do house flies bite?
- Student Why are they called 'Japanese' beetles?-Please answer!!!
- Student sweet tonge
- Student how do flies know when to move when you try to swat it?
Bugscope Team They have a couple features that help them out. One is their amazing sight from their compound eyes you see on either side of their head. They have almost a 360 degree view of what is around them. They also can see movement faster, so everything around them appears to be in slow motion! Another thing is these compound eyes often have stiff, short setae (basically bug hairs) that can sense wind movement.
- Bugscope Team annie has digested quite a few different insects like different larvae, and if you payed alex, he would eat anything
- Student That is so weired looking have u ever dissected one of these?
- Student Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

- Student it really needs to shave really badly (really badly)
- Student can cockroaches live without a head and for how lond
Bugscope Team Yes, they can live for a few days. Eventually they starve or dry out.
- Student What are the things sticking out of its mouth - Annie
Bugscope Team There are many different kinds of setae that help the fly to taste its food.
- Student do you like bugs
- Student Cate:What is that
- Student Annie you actualy ate an insect?
Bugscope Team yes. Several. On purpose.
- Student Have you ever tried one?
- Student what is the difference between a horsefly and a common housefly

- Student annie why did you eat a bug
Bugscope Team Because I wanted to know what it tasted like.

Bugscope Team Because lots of people all over the world regularly consume insects as part of their diet. I thought I would give it a try.

- Student thanks scott!
- Student what do tou mean by slashing rather than sponging mouthparts
Bugscope Team the mouthparts of a housefly are sharp, and they cut your skin with them; the mouthparts of a housefly are spongy and allow them to soak up their food in liquid form
- Student hi derick
- Student wat r we lookin at
- Student You should be on fear factor!
- Teacher mary would like the microscope please

- Student has never eaten a bug (im sorry to say)
- Student Have you eaten worms or spiders?
Bugscope Team Not earthworms. I have eaten caterpillars. And not spiders, but I have tried a scorpion.

Bugscope Team Not exactly. I didn't know that I would eat bugs when I was a little girl. I didn't decide to eat insects until I was in graduate school. My parents say they always knew I would end up doing something with creepy crawlies.
- Student Cate what is the difference between boy and girl bugs?!

- Student Do insects have a brain
- Student cate, how many different species of spiders are there
- Student i agree
- Student Can you feel it if a housefly slashes your skin.
Bugscope Team If it has more molting cycles left it can regenerate new parts like legs, spiders can do this too
- Student Did you eat the tail of the scorpion-annie
- Student do flies have big eyes
- Student annie-wouldn't the scorpion sting your tongue?
- Student do you like spiders or worms more
- Student Annie have u tried a beetel?

- Student Scot: what r we looking at?
- Bugscope Team this is a fruit fly head

- Bugscope Team here you found the fruit fly
- Student Annie why did you try eating a bug in the first place?!!!

Bugscope Team Mary has the power now.
- Student helllo
- Student it needs to shave its eyeball (ouch)

- Student whos eye
- Student What do the hairs do on the eyes
- Student Is that hair ???/?/??/?/??
- Student That is so weird?
- Student scott, how many different species of spiders are there
Bugscope Team there are probably a few thousand species of spiders

- Student No tim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Bugscope Team fruitflies eat enzymes from rotting fruit, like if you left fruit to become overripe you will often see these flying around
- Student Are any of the bugs venomous?
Bugscope Team There are actually very few insects other than wasps, bees, and ants that can sting or that are really venomous. Some insects have hairs that can cause allergic reactions. But, most insects would only be poisonous if you ate lots of them.
- Student hello
- Student do the hairs help sense danger?
Bugscope Team the hairs (setae) help the insect sense its surroundings; they can sense vibration, heat and cold, chemical smells, and touch, for example
- Student have you ever eaten a leech - Annie
- Student is the black widow really the most poisonous spider

- Student How long have bugs been on the world??
- Student sorry gnat
- Student wow
- Student Do the flies contain any poisin
Bugscope Team I don't think there are any venomous flies. Mosquitoes are flies, and their bites itch, but it is not because they are venomous. It is because many people have an allergic reaction to their saliva
- Student What is your fav bug, scot

- Student hi
- Student is there any way you guys can tell wether the bug is a male or a female

- Student this looks like part of a sponge up close
- Student What's an earwig,Scot????????
Bugscope Team An earwig is an insect in the Dermaptera that you often find around the bases of plants. It has a pincer tail you would recognize right away.

- Student annie what do you think the coolest thing about a bug is?
Bugscope Team I think it is cool that there are so so many species of insects, each species does something special, something that makes them different from other insects. They are so small, but they have a huge impact on our lives.

- Student who is your rrole model scientist?

- Student Thanks a MILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

- Student Thank you
- Student How did the rat fleas start the black plauge (black death)??
Bugscope Team The bacterial that causes the plague is naturally present at low levels in rodent populations. As people and rodent populations increased in the 1400 and 1500s, so did the likelihood that rats with the plague and humans would be living in the same place. Fleas bit rats with the plague, then they bit humans, transmitting the disease.
- Student do all bugs have claws Scot?
Bugscope Team not all bugs have claws but it seems that most do
- Bugscope Team these are tenent setae, very cool things that help insects stick to walls and such
