Guest Thank you. I write and publish books that "teach kids to care for the earth." I'm just finishing a book called Busy with Bugs: 160 Extremely Interesting Things to Do with Bugs. I began the resource page with a reference to Bugscope and just wanted to check it out. What an exciting program for children!

Bugscope Team Wow, Cool. Today we have the leftovers of someone's collection, and we don't recognize everything she collected, and in some cases mislabeled. So we're hoping our entomologist will log on in a little while.

Bugscope Team Yes these are on a cuckoo wasp, and we have never seen them quite like this before. With eyes and this rectangular shape.
Bugscope Team Often the mites we see do not have eyes.

Bugscope Team Brochosomes are found only on leafhoppers, but other insects pick them up.
Guest I'm going to get lunch and eat in my office, so I can eavesdrop on the children at 11:30. They'll love this!
Bugscope Team Yeah we hope they do. Every session is a little different. We've been doing this for about 10 years now, around 400 sessions.

Guest Was it the mouth that enabled you to identify it as a stonefly?
Bugscope Team no it was the general aspect (not helpful at all) and the two terminal cerci
Bugscope Team the cerci gave it away

Bugscope Team There isnt much of a mouth to speak of--most stoneflies don't eat as adults

Project Description	This will be the culminating event for our Microscope Unit. Students will have spent the previous 2 weeks investigating the history of microscopes and how to use a light microscope hightlight the differences between animal and plant cells, and observing live specimens.
