The Project

Project Title Madison Campus Elementary 3rd Grade Entomology Project
Insects To Study Depends upon collection
Project Description We study entomology at the beginning of every school year. The children collect various specimen throughout our unit of study. We go on a field trip to a local park to collect and examine insects from 3 habitats: field, forest, and stream. A local grandmother in her 80's raises monarch butterflies (her yard is a Monarch Waystation under Monarch Watch), and she brings every stage for us to see. She knows exactly when they will hatch. We heat up the classroom and see at least one emerge each year without fail. Depending upon what the children collect this year, and further review of prior Bugscope projects, we will decide as a class about what we want to study deeper with Bugscope.
